District 9 : Why So Ugly ?

District 9 is a fresh anticipation movie. Fresh in a sense that it brings something never seen before. That said, the ambiance is taken from Cloverfield, which itself inherited from Blair Witch Project : kinda reporter’s-like footage made with hand camera.

The plot is not bad but not brilliant neither (spoiler : the hero who transforms into a weirdo thing was just seen decades ago in The Fly from David Chronenberg). Just not bad. But talking about fresh content, this specific movie adds an extra episode to the ugly aliens long tail.

Indeed, why couldn’t we see one day good looking aliens ? Different, but good looking. This is the big question of all times for Hollywood when it comes to alien movies : aliens always look so ugly. I mean, why THAT ugly ? If we consider the constance, the alien thing concept of the west cost is pretty simple : Aliens = Satan = look like Satan or so !

In any case, that ugly look shows how afraid we are of meeting some one day. We’re poor things, afraid from the unknown, and this still means more or less by everything !
